Reshma was a Pakistani folk singer best known for her rendition of Panjabi folk songs. Reshma was born in 1947 in Rajasthan, India, but her family migrated to Pakistan when she was a month old shortly after the partition. Reshma's talent was discovered in the 1960s by a former Radio Pakistan producer, who heard her singing at the shrine of a Sufi saint. From there she made a successful debut on radio, and a Bollywood debut in 1983. Reshma went on to become one of the most popular folk singers of Pakistan, appearing on television in the 1960s, as well as recording songs for both the Pakistani and Indian film industry. Reshma, known as the Nightingale of the Desert, passed away in 2013, at the age of 66 after a battle with throat cancer.
