Description
Photograph of Tony Singh at Fruiticana's 10th anniversary celebration held in Surrey, British Columbia (B.C.).
Tony Singh is an entrepreneur and the founder of Fruiticana, a grocery chain that serves the South Asian community in Canada. Initially training to become a commercial airline pilot, Singh shifted his focus to business after recognizing the lack of culturally relevant groceries in Surrey, B.C. In addition to his business achievements, Singh is actively involved in philanthropy, particularly in supporting BC Children's Hospital and other community initiatives.
Fruiticana is a popular grocery chain in Western Canada, known for its fresh produce, vegetables, and culturally specific grocery items. Founded in 1994 by Tony Singh after identifying a gap in the market for South Asian produce in the Lower Mainland, Fruiticana began with a single store in Surrey, B.C., to serve the growing South Asian community. The store provided unique items such as okra, guava, and sugar cane, which were hard to find at the time. The business quickly expanded, opening additional locations in Richmond, Burnaby, Port Coquitlam, and Surrey; Fruiticana operates 23 stores across British Columbia and Alberta, with a large warehouse facility in Surrey to support its operations.
